Prof. Dr Dr h. c. Thomas Philipp – Specialist of Nephrology and Internal Medicine
Former professor and director of the Clinic for Kidney and Hypertensive Disorders at the University Clinic of Essen and a founding member of Preventicum. From 1988 to 2007 Prof. Philipp held the chair for Internal Medicine at the University Clinic of Essen. At the same time he was the director of the Clinic for Kidney and Hypertensive Disorders at the University Clinic of Essen and helped to develop the now leading centre for liver and kidney transplants. For many years he was a member of the board of the German Hypertension League and of the German Society of Internal Medicine. Furthermore, Prof. Philipp is author and co-publisher of medical journals for kidney and hypertensive disorders such as ‘Clinical Nephrology’ etc.
For his habilitation thesis on the pathogenesis of essential hypertension he was awarded the Boehringer Ingelheim Prize, in 1994 he received the Franz Gross Prize of the German Hypertension League and in 2006 the medical faculty of Nizhny Novgorod awarded him with an honorary doctorate. At Preventicum Prof. Philipp dedicates himself to the examination of patients in his specialty of kidney diseases and hypertensive disorders.
